About Newion

Newion is a Dutch early-stage venture capital firm investing in European B2B SaaS companies from Seed through Series A. The firm backs founders building software that changes how businesses operate, with a focus on scalable, defensible products in markets where technical depth is a genuine differentiator. Newion takes an active role in supporting its portfolio companies on product, hiring, and go-to-market strategy.

Why a technical read matters at the early stage

At Seed and Series A, product and technology are often the most critical risk factors in a deal. Founders are typically strong storytellers, but the architecture beneath the pitch deck can tell a very different story — about scalability headroom, technical debt exposure, team capability, and how long the runway will really last if the stack needs a rewrite. For Newion, having a consistent, fast way to assess these factors before terms are set became a competitive priority.

The challenge was speed. Early-stage deals move quickly, and a full technical due diligence process wasn't always warranted or feasible inside a compressed timeline. Newion needed something lighter and faster for initial conviction — a structured scan that could flag the most important issues in 24 hours — while still having access to deeper support when a deal required it.

How X-Ray fits the Newion process

Newion now runs an X-Ray on every company it gets serious about before issuing a term sheet. The scan gives the deal team a structured technical view covering architecture, scalability, codebase quality, team setup, and any immediate risk flags — delivered as a clear report within one business day. For deals that progress, the X-Ray findings feed directly into the investment committee presentation, and the deeper Due Diligence product is available when a more thorough assessment is needed.

The result is a process that gives Newion's partners both speed and substance. Rather than relying on informal technical impressions from founder conversations, the team now goes into every IC discussion with a consistent, independent view of the technology — and a basis for negotiating terms if issues are found.
